Mechanic Agent
AI-powered maintenance management that monitors truck health, logs repairs, and predicts maintenance needs based on fault codes and sensor data.
The Mechanic Agent is an AI system that keeps your trucks in top shape by monitoring health signals, logging repairs, and alerting you to problems before they become breakdowns.
How it works
The Mechanic Agent continuously monitors your trucks for:
- Fault codes — active diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) from telematics
- Engine warnings — check-engine lights and other alerts
- Sensor anomalies — unusual readings that may indicate wear
- Maintenance schedules — due dates for routine services
- Service history — parts replaced, repairs logged, and current condition
When a fault is detected, the agent assesses severity and notifies the right team:
- Critical (immediate risk of breakdown) → dispatch/driver alert
- High (service needed soon) → maintenance team review
- Medium (monitor and schedule) → maintenance queue
- Low (informational) → logged for history
Fault categorization
Faults are grouped by type:
- Emissions — DPF regen, NOx sensor, catalytic converter issues
- Drivetrain — transmission, clutch, axle problems
- Engine — coolant, oil pressure, turbo, fuel system
- Electrical — battery, alternator, lighting
- Brakes — pad wear, fluid pressure, ABS faults
- Suspension — shock, spring, alignment issues
- Other — miscellaneous or unclassified
The agent tracks whether each fault is active (ongoing) or resolved (fixed).
Driver and mechanic workflows
For drivers:
- Receive urgent alerts during dispatch if a critical fault is active
- Can log additional notes when pulling into a service location
- See maintenance recommendations in pre-trip briefing
For mechanics:
- View all active and resolved faults for a truck
- Log repairs with parts used, labor hours, and shop notes
- Attach photos or documents (receipts, invoices, work orders)
- Close a fault once repair is verified
Service history
Every repair is timestamped and linked to the fault(s) it resolved. Over time, Drafft builds a complete maintenance record:
- Total downtime per fault type
- Cost of repairs by system
- Recurring faults (suggests systemic issue or driver habit)
- Mean time between failures (MTBF) per truck
- Compliance status (all required services logged)
Integration with telematics
When a fault code arrives from your telematics provider (Motive, Samsara, etc.), the Mechanic Agent:
- Looks up the fault code's definition and severity
- Checks if it's a repeat (same truck, same fault in last 30 days)
- Matches it to any open work order or pending maintenance
- Alerts the assigned mechanic or fleet manager
- Logs it to the truck's service history
If a repair is logged and the fault code clears, the agent marks the issue as resolved.
Customization
Contact your Drafft admin to adjust:
- Alert thresholds — which fault severities trigger notifications and to whom
- Allowed work types — preventive, corrective, emergency (for quota tracking)
- Service intervals — routine maintenance schedules by vehicle type
- Integration channels — where mechanic alerts are sent (Telegram is one example)
Document storage
Repair receipts, invoices, and work orders can be attached to a service record. All files are securely stored and linked to the truck and fault for easy auditing and compliance reporting.
