Adding Vehicles to Your Fleet

How to add trucks and trailers to Drafft, via telematics sync or manual entry.

Drafft tracks two asset types: trucks (powered vehicles with telematics) and trailers (non-powered, no GPS). Both appear in Fleet → Assets.

Via telematics sync (recommended)

When you connect Motive or Samsara, Drafft automatically imports all vehicles registered in your telematics account. No manual entry needed. Vehicles appear in Fleet → Assets within a few minutes of connecting.

If a vehicle is missing after sync, verify it exists in your telematics account and that the API key has permission to read all vehicles.

Adding a truck manually

If a vehicle isn't in your telematics account (e.g., a new purchase not yet enrolled), you can add it manually:

  1. Go to Fleet → Assets.
  2. Click Add Vehicle → Truck.
  3. Enter: Unit number, VIN, year, make, model, and license plate.
  4. Click Save.

Manually added trucks appear in the asset list but won't have live GPS or fuel data until enrolled in telematics.

Adding a trailer manually

  1. Go to Fleet → Assets.
  2. Click Add Vehicle → Trailer.
  3. Enter: Unit number, VIN, year, make, and license plate.
  4. Click Save.

Bulk import

You can import multiple vehicles at once via CSV. Click Import in the top right of the Assets page and download the template. Fill in the required columns and upload. Drafft validates each row and shows errors before committing.

Editing vehicle details

Click any vehicle in the asset list to open its detail page. From there you can edit configuration, view maintenance history, manage documents, and review fuel performance.
