Connecting Motive

Step-by-step guide to integrating Motive telematics with Drafft

Connecting Motive

Motive is a telematics platform that provides real-time vehicle tracking, diagnostics, and driver safety insights. Integrating Motive with Drafft enables automatic fuel recommendations based on live vehicle data and route information.

Prerequisites

  • Active Motive account with admin access
  • API credentials (Client ID and Client Secret)
  • Trucks already added to your Drafft fleet

Getting Your Motive API Credentials

  1. Log in to your Motive account as an administrator
  2. Navigate to Settings > API & Integrations
  3. Click Create New Application
  4. Fill in the application details:
    • App Name: "Drafft Integration"
    • App Type: Server-to-server
    • Permissions: Select "Vehicles - Read" and "Trips - Read"
  5. Copy your Client ID and Client Secret (you won't be able to see the secret again)

Connecting to Drafft

  1. In Drafft, go to Settings > Integrations
  2. Click Connect under Motive
  3. Paste your Client ID and Client Secret
  4. Click Authorize
  5. You'll be redirected to Motive to confirm permissions
  6. Click Allow to grant Drafft access to your vehicle data
  7. Once redirected back to Drafft, your integration is complete

What Drafft Accesses

After connecting, Drafft will:

  • Retrieve real-time GPS location and fuel level data for your trucks
  • Track vehicle diagnostics and error codes
  • Monitor trip details to understand routes and distances traveled
  • Use this data to generate accurate fuel recommendations

Troubleshooting

"Invalid Credentials" error:

  • Verify you copied your Client ID and Secret correctly
  • Check that your Motive account has admin permissions
  • Ensure the API credentials haven't expired in Motive's settings

No trucks appearing:

  • Confirm all trucks are active and properly set up in Motive
  • Check that your Motive subscription includes API access
  • Wait 5-10 minutes for the initial data sync

Connection keeps dropping:

  • Motive's tokens expire regularly—Drafft automatically refreshes them
  • If issues persist, disconnect and reconnect the integration

Disconnecting Motive

To remove the Motive integration:

  1. Go to Settings > Integrations
  2. Click Disconnect next to Motive
  3. Your vehicle data will no longer sync with Drafft
