Connecting Samsara

Samsara is a modern fleet operations platform providing vehicle telematics, driver monitoring, and real-time logistics insights. Integrating Samsara with Drafft enables automatic fuel recommendations based on your fleet's live operational data.

Prerequisites

  • Active Samsara account with admin access
  • API token from Samsara
  • Trucks already added to your Drafft fleet

Getting Your Samsara API Token

  1. Log in to your Samsara dashboard as an administrator
  2. Navigate to Settings > API Tokens
  3. Click Generate New API Token
  4. Give your token a descriptive name: "Drafft Integration"
  5. Select the following scopes:
    • Vehicles: Read access to vehicle location and fuel data
    • Fleet: Read access to fleet configuration
  6. Click Generate
  7. Copy the token immediately (it won't be displayed again)

Connecting to Drafft

  1. In Drafft, go to Settings > Integrations
  2. Click Connect under Samsara
  3. Paste your API token into the field
  4. Click Test Connection to verify the token works
  5. Once verified, click Connect
  6. Your integration is now active

What Drafft Accesses

After connecting, Drafft will:

  • Retrieve real-time vehicle location, speed, and fuel level data
  • Access vehicle maintenance alerts and diagnostic codes
  • Monitor driver behavior and trip information
  • Use this operational data to generate precise fuel recommendations
  • Track idle time and engine hours

Troubleshooting

"Invalid Token" error:

  • Verify you copied the API token completely without extra spaces
  • Check that your Samsara account still has admin permissions
  • Regenerate a new token in Samsara's settings if the original has issues

No vehicles showing up:

  • Ensure all vehicles are active and properly configured in Samsara
  • Confirm your API token has "Vehicles" read permissions
  • Allow 5-10 minutes for initial data synchronization

Data sync is slow or incomplete:

  • Check your Samsara subscription tier (some features require Premium)
  • Verify your internet connection and Drafft's access to Samsara's API
  • Reach out to Samsara support if the API is experiencing issues

Updating Your Connection

If you need to update your API token:

  1. Go to Settings > Integrations
  2. Click Edit next to Samsara
  3. Paste your new token and click Update

Disconnecting Samsara

To remove the Samsara integration:

  1. Go to Settings > Integrations
  2. Click Disconnect next to Samsara
  3. Drafft will no longer sync vehicle data from Samsara
