Managing Toll Transponders

How to link, activate, and maintain toll transponders across your fleet.

Toll transponders (also called toll tags) enable automatic toll collection. Drafft tracks transponder status, vehicle assignments, and account balance to keep your fleet moving smoothly.

Link a transponder to a vehicle

  1. Go to Fleet → Assets and click on a truck.
  2. Scroll to Toll Configuration.
  3. Click Add Transponder.
  4. Enter the transponder ID or serial number.
  5. Select your toll operator (e.g., E-ZPass, TollTag).
  6. Click Save.

Drafft automatically fetches the transponder's current status and balance from your toll operator.

Activate a transponder

If a transponder is inactive:

  1. Go to Toll → Transponders.
  2. Find the inactive transponder and click it.
  3. Click Activate.
  4. Confirm the vehicle assignment.
  5. Click Submit.

The toll operator is notified and usually activates within 24 hours. You'll receive a confirmation email.

Set up low balance alerts

To avoid toll evasion (driving with a depleted balance):

  1. Go to Settings → Notifications → Toll.
  2. Toggle Low Balance Alert.
  3. Set a threshold (e.g., $50).
  4. Choose notification recipients (dispatch, drivers, or both).

Drafft automatically syncs transponder balances daily. When a balance drops below your threshold, the selected recipients are notified via Telegram.

Monitor transponder status

Go to Toll → Transponders to view all transponders at a glance:

  • Status: Active, Inactive, or Suspended.
  • Vehicle: Which truck or trailer it's assigned to.
  • Balance: Current prepaid amount.
  • Last Synced: When Drafft last fetched updated balance and status.

Click any transponder to see detailed activity (tolls charged, balance history) and manage settings.

Deactivate or reassign

To deactivate a transponder:

  1. Go to Toll → Transponders.
  2. Click the transponder.
  3. Click Deactivate.
  4. Confirm.

To reassign a transponder to a different vehicle:

  1. Click the transponder.
  2. Click Reassign Vehicle.
  3. Select a new truck or trailer.
  4. Click Save.

The toll operator is notified. Reassignments typically take 24-48 hours to take effect.

Troubleshooting

Transponder not syncing: Check that your toll operator API credentials are valid in Settings → Integrations. If they're correct, wait 24 hours for the next sync cycle.

Balance not updating: Toll operators sometimes delay posting new charges or credits. Refresh the page; if the balance still looks wrong after 48 hours, contact tolling support.

Suspended transponder: This usually means a payment failed or the account is inactive. Log into your toll operator's portal to investigate, then reactivate in Drafft once resolved.
